Role Overview:
Based at BCA Automotive’ s Portbury Depot, the 4x4 Transport Manager is responsible for the efficient management of the South West domestic operation as well as the overseeing of day to day operations on site at Portbury, ensuring that customer requirements are met in accordance with contractual obligations, Company policies, and legislative requirements.
Reporting to the Regional Manager the post holder’s key responsibilities will be, but not limited to;
Operational:
- Responsibility for the optimisation of all personnel and resources within the depot, to both Company and customer targets and expectations.
- Having management responsibility for all BCA Car Transporter Drivers in the South West.
- Having responsibility for depot compliance.
- Management responsibility for all clerical activity for the Portbury depot.
- Deputising for the Regional Manager during planned and unplanned absence.
- Managing the site at Portbury maintaining relationships with local service providers and other BCA internal departments. Responsible for service delivery to all Automotive client sites in the region, including but not limited to, Portbury, Avonmouth, Newport, Bridgewater, Webac, Cinch and any other adhoc requirements.
- Manage the 4x4 allocation team and available work to deliver the best solution daily in relation to fleet efficiency and service delivery whilst working within legal parameters in relation to Operator licence requirements.
- Collaborate with all other allocation teams across the country and support specific business priorities with required resource as highlighted through daily conference calls.
- Highlight all shortages on conference calls and liaise with Brokerage team leader and BCA network to cover.
- Manage local customer relations, any required customer communication and SLA control.
- Ensure positive communication exists between staff and drivers.
- Be a central point of contact for all internal and external queries.
- Work with external and internal yards and compound agents to minimise truck delays on collection and delivery.
- Drive KPI requirement through the team on a daily basis including minimising empty running, best use of driver day to achieve highest level of productivity and fully loading the fleet.
- Manage driver performance and escalate for resolution any deficiency in driver performance.
- Implement and manage the business KPIs required of the allocation and driver liaison team.
Planning:
- Planning, short to medium term strategy within the depot for operational activities i.e. inter depot, holiday planning, P&L collation, reviews, and expectations.
HR:
- Responsibility for both depot and driver recruitment for the South West.
- Conduct Investigation and Disciplinary hearings.
Finance, Reporting, and Administration:
- Ensuring accurate and timely, weekly and monthly reporting is carried out and taking ownership of the depot financial performance.
- Ensuring that all pricing and invoicing is administered correctly.
- Having involvement in the setting of local budgets.
- Reporting on operational performance and KPIs, and cascading the information to depot personnel.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with H&S requirements on site at Portbury.
- Having responsibility for the accurate completion or accident, RIDDOR, and investigation reports and risk assessments.
Legal Compliance:
- Ensure that all legal compliances required at depot level are met in full and administered accordingly, for example driver’s hours and tachograph regulations, servicing, and defect procedures.
Person Specification:
The Ideal candidate will possess:
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent / relevant qualification) grade A to C, including English and Maths.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- International CPC Holder.
- Excellent communication skills and experience of dealing with external and internal suppliers & customers.
- A minimum of two years’ experience at Senior Supervisor / Traffic Manager Level of similar within the transport and distribution industry.
- Experience in a managerial role within a heavily unionised environment.
- Previous hands on experience of working in a traffic office and being involved in allocation.
- A strong understanding of the transport and distribution industry’s KPIs.
- Experience and an understanding of budgetary mechanisms and the ability to influence and interpret a profit and loss account.
- Experience of successfully managing customer relationships.
